GROUP ROLES

Chairperson:  Duties include getting the group organized and moving.  The chairperson should know the personality role of each member of the group and the group responsibility role of each member of the group.  As research progresses, he/she needs to assign tasks as required to each member and see that deadlines are met, that persons in the group are prepared for the following day, that work is turned in when due, and that everyone is on task, completing the work necessary for successful completion of the assignments and role.

Spokesperson:  It is the duty of this person to speak for the group during the debriefing sessions.  He/she must be prepared to explain why the group has or has not voted at the time indicated and a short explanation of the group’s situation at the date of voting.   The spokesperson needs to review any and all notes taken by the recorder to make sure he/she has all information the group has available for the debriefing.

Recorder:  The recorder’s responsibility is to keep notes of the group’s progress in researching the information needed for the members to responsibly vote each day.  This information can be filled into the outline for the historical process essay and be kept ready for final completion.   The recorder’s notes must be turned in with his/her self- evaluation and must be kept daily.

Time-line Keeper:  It is the responsibility of the time-line keeper to properly fill in the group timeline with appropriate events as the group discovers them. The time-line keeper will also up-date the class timeline using the appropriate color marker provided to his group.

Teacher Interface:  It is this person’s responsibility to keep in touch with the teacher, asking any questions the group may have, reporting on group progress, or bringing back information from the teacher to the group.  This person should check in with the teacher at least once each day and whenever teacher assistance to the group is needed.

Other Group Interface:  It is this person’s responsibility to exchange information with other groups.  While doing research, information pertinent to another group may be found or sources for them discovered.  This person lets the corresponding person in the other group know what information they have run across, and seeks the same from the Group Interface persons in other groups.

Each person must remember that regardless of their group responsibility, it is their individual responsibility to know when the person whose role they are playing can and cannot vote. It is the responsibility of other members in the group to make sure each member knows when they can and cannot vote.
